We've changed how AI tools sign in to the Guidelines MCP server. Tools now identify themselves with a Client ID Metadata Document, the method the Model Context Protocol recommends in place of Dynamic Client Registration. The server URL is unchanged: https://mcp.guidelines.site/mcp.
What you need to do. Connections made before October 7, 2026 keep working until October 21, 2026. Reconnect each tool once before then:
- Claude (web, desktop, mobile). In Settings → Connectors, remove Guidelines, add it again as a custom connector with the same URL, then sign in.
- Claude Code. Update to 2.1.81 or later, then open
/mcp, select guidelines, choose Clear authentication, and sign in again. - ChatGPT. In Settings → Plugins, remove Guidelines, then add it again as a custom MCP server with the steps in Connecting ChatGPT to your brand guidelines.
- Cursor. Replace the Guidelines entry in
mcp.jsonwith the configuration in your dashboard under Integrations → Cursor. It now includes a client ID and no longer needsmcp-remote. - VS Code and GitHub Copilot. Add the server URL as an HTTP MCP server. Sign-in needs no extra setup.
- Other MCP clients. Use the client ID and settings in your dashboard under Integrations → Other MCP.
Why. Each tool now has one registration instead of one per connection, our sign-in service no longer accepts open registrations, and the consent screen names the tool asking for access.
Setup instructions for each tool are in your dashboard under Integrations.
