Adding navigation to your brand guide

In this tutorial, we'll explore how to add navigation to your Guidelines site, making it easier for users to browse pages and find the content they need.

Sidebar Navigation

The Sidebar is the main navigation menu in Guidelines. It can:

  • Appear on the left or right side of the screen.
  • Serve as the mobile menu when viewed on small devices.
  • Be configured as an overlay or a permanent sidebar on larger screens.

You can edit the sidebar's layout just as you would any other page in the editor.

Floating Menu

The Floating Menu appears by default on mobile when there isn't space for the full sidebar. It follows users as they scroll down the page.

Options include:

  • Linking directly to the menu or to the search function.
  • Hiding or displaying items such as the logo or search bar.

Footer Navigation

The Footer can also provide navigation controls. You can:

  • Add Previous and Next page links.
  • Enable Infinite Scroll so users move seamlessly from one page to the next.

This helps users flow naturally through your brand guide without interruption.

Menu Blocks

For additional flexibility, you can add Menu Blocks directly to any page:

  1. Click the button in the toolbar.
  2. Select .
  3. Configure the block to link to other pages or to headings within the same page.

Menu blocks can be styled to match your brand, giving you a customizable way to guide users through content.

Conclusion

Navigation is key to helping users quickly find what they need in your Guidelines site. By combining sidebars, floating menus, footers, and menu blocks, you can create a seamless browsing experience that feels consistent and easy to use.
