Enhanced MCP Server: Full Guidelines Content Access

December 6, 2025

We've significantly expanded the capabilities of our Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, giving AI assistants complete access to your brand guidelines content. Previously, we provided MCP tools with your logos, colors, fonts, and typography styles. These are still available, but we've opened up new tools and resources:

New Capabilities

Guidelines Tools

We've added two new tools for AI tools to access your published content on Guidelines:

  • search_guidelines: List or search for guideline sites by name, making it easy to discover available guidelines across your organization
  • get_guidelines: Retrieve all page resources for a specific guideline site, providing AI assistants with a complete view of your guideline structure

MCP Resources

AI assistants can now list and read individual pages from your published Guidelines Sites as MCP resources. Each time you publish a page on your Guidelines Site, we automatically publish a version of this content formatted in Markdown, a format that AI tools can read easily.

  • URI Pattern: guidelines://{domain}/{slug}
  • Format: Full markdown content from your published Guidelines page
  • Operations: List all available pages and read specific page content on demand

This means AI assistants like Claude, Cursor, Copilot and ChatGPT can now access your complete guideline documentation, not just brand assets.

Technical Changes

We've made some changes to our MCP server implementation:

  • SSE Deprecated: We've phased out Server-Sent Events (SSE), a deprecated MCP standard, in favor of the more robust HTTP streaming approach
  • HTTP Streaming: We continue support for streamable HTTP as the MCP standard way of communicating with our MCP server.

While the old endpoints will still work, we recommend updating your MCP server URL to the following:

  • MCP Server URL: https://mcp.guidelines.site/mcp

What This Means for You

Your AI assistants can now:

  • Browse and search across all your guideline sites
  • Access complete page content from any brand guide you create
  • Integrate your language guides as well as the visual aspects of your brands
  • Reference specific sections and guidelines in their responses
  • Maintain context across your entire brand documentation

These enhancements can give AI tools the exact content and context they need for better outputs. They can enhance the way that AI agents write, design, and code in accordance with your brand and the rules you publish.
